San Antonio (day 2)

Saturday March 4 – We dressed for the Cowboy Match even though the forecast was for 100% chance of rain.  The range was about 8 miles south of our RV spot.  As we headed south, there wasn’t rain yet, but the skies looked bleak.

As we neared the range, it started to rain.  We went into “A Place to Shoot” which was a gun store and front to the range.  Cowboy shooters were in the store and we were advised that the match had been cancelled due to rain. It was expected to rain all day with harder rain in the afternoon.  We were invited to look at their range, so we followed one of the members down a trail through an entrance into a grassy area with five berms for shooting.  We took some photos of the stages as it continued to rain harder. They had nice covers for shade - but the shooting would be out in the open.

We had arranged for one of Jim’s former Eagle Scouts to meet us at the range. He now lives in the San Antonio area.  We have shot with Thor at the Idaho Falls range five or so years ago. He would come to the range with his father, Kevin, who was also an assistant scout master.  We were excited to see him and since we couldn’t shoot, we decided to go out for a cup of coffee.  We spent about 1.5 hours catching up with him about his life.  It was a lot of fun.

Jim and I decided to visit the Mission San Jose y San Miguel de Aguayo which is one of five of the Spanish missions established in the San Antonio area starting in 1768. The Alamo was another of the five churches.

The rain continued so we scrapped our plans to go to the Tower of the Americas. According to weather.com, the rain would continue all day.  So there was no point in going to the top to see clouds.  But we went back downtown anyway and had an early dinner at Maria Mia, a Mexican restaurant, at the Shops at the Riverwalk.  As we walked outside from the parking garage to the restaurant, we saw a truck/limo? Only in Texas!  Well, maybe Idaho!

Our restaurant was at the entryway of the Shops at the Riverwalk, and we looked out at an area of the river where the boat picks up passengers.  But no boats were around. Rain, rain, rain.

After dinner we walked into the shop area and it is a really big mall.  City blocks and three stories. All that jazz. We walked around a while and decided to go back to the RV and catch up on our rest. It is 9 pm CST and I believe the rain may have finally stopped.
