Sunday Feb 26 – Up at dawn for breakfast as Frontier
Restaurant. This restaurant is a favorite of the UNM community and right on
Central Ave. It started out as a corner
restaurant and has expanded into at least four more store fronts. Here are Jim and two of his three sisters
after breakfast (and the duke in the background).

We left Albuquerque and drove a couple hours east to
Tucumcari, NM and stopped at Becky’s family house. This house is now for sale. If you’d like a
place to live in Tucumcari!
Tucumcari is famous on Route 66 for the number of motels available. One of the most famous is the Blue Swallow Motel. Each room has it's own garage. It is painted brightly and very tidy.
We continued east to Texas and the long lonely ride to
Amarillo. This part of Texas has miles of windmills and lots of wind. We came upon cars along the side of the road. As we sped past a
plowed field, I noticed upended cars “planted” in the field with about 20 or so
people in and around the cars. I
realized that we had just passed the Cadillac ranch! These cars are an art project with Cadillac's of different years collected, painted and planted for décor.
We bypassed Amarillo proper, and headed south for Palo Duro Texas
State Park. We arrived in time to set up
camp and cook dinner. We decided to
explore the park in the morning.
