Holbrook, AZ to Petrified Forest National Park to Globe, AZ

Our RV park in Holbrook was OK.  It was desert so the pads were gravel with some trees. It was desolate and surrounded by desert cactus and sagebrush.  I tell you this so you are with me at the end of the day.

We drove over to Petrified Forest National Park.  We entered at the south end of the park and visited the Rainbow Museum and hiked to see the "old faithful" tree.  We walked across the parking lot and hiked out to the Log Jam and the Agate House.  So after 3 miles of hiking in long sleeve t-shirt weather, we walked back to the RV for lunch.

This tree appears to be cut but the silica crystals split evenly.

Old Faithful at the root end. All petrified.

This house was made by the pueblo Indians out of some of the petrified wood. And Ginny came too.

We left the park and drove south to Concho, Show Low to Carrizo.  After leaving Carrizo, we followed the Salt River Canyon.  We had no inkling that this was such a beautiful drive.

We couldn't find a "decent" RV park in Globe, so we decided to head south and since we were on the Apache reservation, thought we could find something near a casino.  Tired, we pulled into Apache Gold RV park and got our spot for the night.  It is a freaking parking lot!!  Just lines and places to park and hookups for water, elec, sewer.  Not a tree or a blade of grass in the RV park:

We walked over to the casino and ate some mediocre burgers and curly fries.  Day done. Did you know that not many slot machines take actual coins anymore?
